Please help 'Team Hannah' raise £150,000
An appeal for donations has been announced to help spa industry professional Hannah Bradley receive life-saving treatment. 'Team Hannah' has been created to support Hannah Bradley, 27, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Her partner Pete Cohen, as well as family and friends in the industry, are now campaigning to help raise £150,000, so that Hannah can have the opportunity of life-saving treatments in the US. Hannah's exemplary work as Spa Operations Manager at ESPA received industry recognition in 2010 when she won a Professional Beauty Award.

Champneys develops spa brand with Boots

Champneys and Boots have continued their brand partnership with the debut of the first Champneys Day Spa to open in a Boots store in Milton Keynes, UK. The partnership began with the launch of Champneys spa products in Boots in April 2011.
The 186sqm spa cost £200,000 to create and features five treatment rooms. Commenting on the debut of the first Boots partnership spa, Champneys co-owner, Stephen Purdew said: "This is an exciting development and I hope this will be the first of many such stores." Champneys has also announced that Alex De Carvalho has been appointed as Managing Director.

New report highlights wellness tourism growth areas

The second phase of a new research report called 4WR: Wellness Travel 2020 has been released by Wellness Tourism Worldwide.
4WR Phase 1 was published in June 2011 and outlined the current status of wellness tourism around the world. The second phase offers a range of perceptions and trends that are shaping the wellness tourism industry. It also includes forecasts on the state of wellness tourism by 2020 based upon categories including who (consumers); where (countries offering wellness tourism products) and what (types of products available).
Data was collected by Hungarian company Xellum Ltd from 140 stakeholders representing wellness, tourism, spa and healthcare industries in over 50 countries.

New flagship for Aromatherapy Associates

Aromatherapy Associates (AA) has launched its new 150sqm flagship boutique in the heart of London's Knightsbridge area.
The ground floor is dedicated to retail and incorporates warm grey tones, mirrored walls and quirky touches including a chandelier designed using AA's iconic Bath & Shower Oil bottles. There is also an 'ingredients bar', where customers can experience essential oils in their raw form. Downstairs, the three treatment rooms have been designed to 'feel like a beautiful bedroom' with wide beds, soft duvets and hotwater bottles.

Revitalised COMO spa debuts at the Metropolitan

The COMO spa offering has relaunched at the Metropolitan London hotel in the UK. Called COMO Shambhala Urban Escape, it is intended to be an intimate, results-driven spa that underlines the company's holistic approach, as seen at its flagship COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali. The sleek, minimalistic interiors of the Metropolitan hotel have been reflected in the design of the new spa, which has been envisioned as a clean-lined, peaceful sanctuary and was created by Linzi Coppic of Forme UK. Featuring six treatment rooms, including two doubles featuring steamrooms, the relaunched spa also incorporates expanded gym and yoga facilities as well as a reception and retail space.

Nira Hotels & Resorts has opened a luxury boutique lifestyle hotel and spa in Switzerland's Engadine Valley. Nira Alpina is nestled in the mountainside, next to the Corvatsch cable car.
Designed by Guido Tschvor, the 350sqm spa has five treatment rooms and a room dedicated to manicures and pedicures.
The hotel's Nira Spa boasts a number of standout features, including a relaxation room with mood enhancement lighting and a mosaic-lined whirlpool with underwater beds. Treatments only use organic products from the Alpiene and Spiezia Organics ranges. Signature therapies promote Alpine-orientated wellbeing and include oxygen facials, clay wraps, hot stone massage and exfoliation.

Habia to conduct widescale qualifications review
The Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (Habia) and its Awarding Organisation Forum has begun one of the most comprehensive reviews of qualifications ever undertaken. In the form of a questionnaire, the review allows training providers delivering hair and beauty qualifications across the UK to comment on every individual level of NVQs, SVQs and VRQs. The results from the questionnaires will be used to inform the structure of all hair and beauty qualifications in the future.
The Awarding Organisation Forum represents all the awarding bodies that currently operate within the beauty and hair sector and includes CIBTAC, City & Guilds, EDI, Edexcel, ITEC, SQA and VTCT.

Balkan industry looks to the future
The first-ever Balkan Spa Summit took place in Bulgaria from 21-23 September.
The Summit's mission was to bring together key experts to share their experience from the spa, wellness and medical tourism fields. It is set to build firm foundations for the future of the Balkan wellness and spa industry. The Summit gave delegates an opportunity to unite and share ideas on how best to progress the development and marketing opportunities of the industry, as a whole. A key topic discussed was how the Balkan spa industry can achieve greater government and hospitality industry support. The 2012 Balkan Spa Summit will be held at Altin Yunus Resort, Turkey from 3-6 October.
